Poverty in Kentucky

Kentucky's poverty rate is now at 19.4 percent. The poverty rate for Kentucky people between ages 18 to 64 increased from 17.6 in 2011 to 18.3 in 2012. The rate in 2008 was 15.7.  Also estimated that one in four children in Kentucky live in poverty. Child poverty in Kentucky increased to 26.5 percent in 2012 from 23.5 percent in 2008.
I have seen homeless people in Kentucky and I have been to the worse parts of tow, but I never would have guessed that this many people are living in poverty.  I think it's sad, and I can't really do anything to help.  I know that you can give money but you never know what that person might do with it, they might use it to go by drugs or alcohol.  I am definitely not saying everyone would, but you never know.  I think that people need to make poverty in Kentucky a bigger deal because people like me don't even know it's that bad and I think people should know. Everyone is so concerned about the people in other places when they should be concerned about the people right here in there own town and city.

Unemployment in the United States

The United States has a 8.1 rate of unemployment.  Nevada, California, and Rhode Island have the top 3 unemployment rate.  Nevada being at 11.1, California at 10.5, and Rhode Island at 10.4.  unemployment is a very big issue.  It causes people not to have money with then could leave to poverty and starvation.

I know that unemployment is very hard to fix because you need money to start businesses and if you don't have money, we'll then you can't start that business. It does make me wonder though, what are we supposed to do to try and help people who are unemployed? We can't give up our jobs for them, and if we don't have the money we can't start new businesses, so what do we do? I think people should maybe try and help by giving money or food to those in need and start new organizations to help.  I am no expert, but I do think something needs to be done to try and help these people.

Hunger in Kentucky

17% of Kentucky's population do not know where there next meal will come from.  That's about 750,000 of our population. Close to 1 in 4 children lack consistent access to enough food everyday for a healthy life style.  Parents often have to choose between food or paying for utilities like fuel, and heating.
I can honestly say that I never really knew of the hunger issues in Kentucky, and now that I do I think people should do more to help.  So many people talk about wanting to help people around the world, but what about right here in your home town.  What about those people.  They need help too.  I think that more people should try to help the people around us, then look to the outside and see.  Hunger is a huge issue that I am fortunate enough to not have to deal with it, but people like me should want to help others near home.

government shutdown

From October 1 through 16, 2013, the United States federal government entered a shutdown after Congress failed to enact legislation appropriating funds for a continuing resolution.

During the shutdown, approximately 800,000 federal employees were without jobs and another 1.3 million were required to report to work without known payment dates. Only those government services deemed "excepted" under the Antideficiency Act were continued; and only those employees deemed "excepted" continued to report to work. Regular government operations resumed October 17 after an interim appropriations. The 16-day-long shutdown of October 2013 was the third-longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

Government Shut Down

Ten states have been hurt or effected by the government shut down. I think that the whole government shutting down is stupid. I do know that it was supposed to help America in a way, but honestly politicians I don't think know what they are doing. I think that the people with out jobs right now could be greatly effected, because who knows how long this will last.  And if it doesn't start back up soon then those people will have lost a lot of money that they can't make up, or get another job to replace their old one.  This is also a challenge because the country is so far in debt that this was supposed to help but it didn't/hasn't really turned out that way. I think the government shutting down was not necessarily the best thing.

Abortion

Abortion.  It is when a mother gets rid of her child. Why would you ever want to do that?  I think if you are willing to take the risk of having a baby then when you do you should keep that child.  I also don't think that it is right that people are having sex before marriage. And you shouldn't have it if you are not open to the idea of possibly having a kid even if you have protection. I think that no one should get rid of there child, but then comes in the idea of rape.  I understand if you are a 12 year old girl and you get raped, I thin that abortion should then and only be open for those kinds of things.  I don't think that abortion should be legal for people who weren't careful and got pregnant but it was an accident.  If you were willing to have sex before you were ready to have a baby then you should know there's a small chance, and if you do get pregnant then you should have that kid.

Shooting Rampage

A former Navy member killed 12 people in a shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard.  He had signs of mental illness dating back more than a decade, including a recent episode in which he complained about hearing voices and of people sending “vibrations to his body” to prevent him from sleeping.  The gunman was suffering from hallucinations so severe that he called the Newport Police Department in Rhode Island where he told officers he was on business.  The gunman entered the Navy Yard, a secure military facility near the Capitol, killing at least 12 people before he was fatally shot by the authorities. The police say he acted alone.

I honestly don't understand why people could be so stupid.  Why would you just kill random innocent people? I think that he and everyone else in the world who kill people for "fun" are stupid.  Why would you kill someone if they are not trying to hurt you.  And they have done nothing to you and you have never met them before.  Like seriously I do not understand what would make someone do something like that.  I do understand that he had a mental disorder, but he should be sent to the hospital or something.  I don't understand if the guy said to the police he was suffering from great hallucinations, then the police should have sent him to the hospital to help him.  I don't understand why people are such idiots.  I think this issue is very very stupid and that it shouldn't have occurred.  I think that people who are suffering from mental disorders should be supervised by family or someone.
