The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

Some of the provisions of the Act are to:

1. Make healthcare affordable for everyone.
2. It provides health insurance for everyone
3. Put a limit on how much someone has to pay for their healthcare.
4. It started new quality of care standards

That could mean a couple of important things.

First, healthcare will be available to everyone. Currently today there are about 45 million Americans who don't have insurance. Many of these don't have insurance because they can't afford it. Part of the Act makes healthcare available to everyone, even if they don't pay for it. What that means is people who can't go see a doctor canto see one now. Before this Act they would have to go to a hospital emergency room to get healthcare. Second, it makes health insurance more affordable for people who can't pay the high price of health insurance. Many health insurance plans today may cost 200-1200 dollars a month for a person. That makes it hard for many people who don't make lot of money to pay for it. This group of people maybe be young people just out of college who don't make a lot of money. The limit on how much someone has to pay themselves. That's good for the person because it limits on how much they pay.
On the other hand, all of these things can be seen as bad things too. If everyone has insurance covered by the government more people will seek healthcare services from doctors and hospitals. The government gets their money from taxes to pay the doctors and the hospitals. So, if they increase taxes to pay for it, that hurts everybody. If they don't increase taxes to pay for it, they will have to pay doctors and hospitals less money, which hurts them. This could mean that the quality of our care might go done in the future. Many hospitals in our country are charitable, meaning they take care of the sick who don't have insurance. The Act imposes quality standards that may be hard for some of them to meet, and they will have to pay a penalty.
Overall, it will be interesting to see what happens because we don't know if it will be good or bad.
